DEPARTMENT OF PHYSIOLOGY

Physiology can be defined as the study of the mechanisms of the normal functioning of the cells and organs of the living systems at the molecular, cellular, tissue, organ, system and organismal levels. Physiologists integrate the vast panoply of biomedical information acquired at the different levels of organization of biological systems to provide a logical account of the body processes and functions that define human existence. Physiologists investigate body systems (musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, lymphatic, respiratory, nervous, renal, endocrine, reproductive, urinary, gastrointestinal, and integumentary systems), using different approaches such as electrophysiological, molecular, cellular techniques etc.

The Department teaches Medical Physiology course for Medicine and Surgery undergraduate programme. The Department delivers the course content of Medical Physiology to undergraduate students through lectures, seminar, practical classes, and congresses.

The Department is also involved in interdisciplinary teaching of medical students in the model of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL), and also supervises undergraduate medical students’ research works.

The Department uses state-of-the-art research tools to unravel mechanisms of functioning of the human body in health and disease.

Mission

To providing excellence in evidence-based teaching, state-of-the-art basic and clinically-oriented, translational research in medical physiology.

Vision

To be a world-class academic and research Department in the disciplines of Medical Physiology
